Seakeeper Makes Their Debut with 'The Curse'

I’ve been following the journey of Jackson Hale, aka Zonra, for quite a few years now. He is without question, a wildly talented individual. Over the course of those years I have noticed the further incorporating of live instrumentation as a growing trend in his music. Drums, Guitar, Keys and more, there is little, it seems, that he can’t do.
A week or so ago I was made aware that Jackson is the drummer of a band called Seakeeper, who have very recently released an EP called The Curse.
This is the kind of thing I seek out instinctively. I’m always looking for something fresh, organic, unassuming, so let’s dive in.
Seakeeper describes themselves as “an instrumental fusion quartet from Northern California,” and that’s a fair starting point. But more precisely, they float somewhere between jam-fusion, surf rock, and a sort of dreamy, west coast psychedelic garage. It’s not messy or meandering. It’s clean, deliberate, and full of breath.

Largely driven by the lead guitars of Kyle Foster, it’s less noodle, and more intentional melodically, with catchy chords and an abundance of chill. Cole Hornstein’s rhythm guitar creates a soft space for the subtle intricacies to come through. Jackson keeps things light, but bopping on Drums, and Bassist Lance Vermeer warms everything up with some dense bottom end.
The 5-song EP, The Curse, is subtle but immersive. Honestly, the cover art nails it. It feels like being underwater, but in the comfort of your own living room. Comforting, fluid, and strange in the best way. It’s not ambient, but it doesn’t demand your attention. It invites it.
The Curse is more than just an EP; it's a space to relax and get lost in the moment. Seakeeper has crafted a collection of tracks that are both technically impressive and incredibly easy to listen to. It’s the perfect soundtrack for unwinding, creative work, or simply letting your mind wander. This is definitely a band to keep an eye on, and I'm already looking forward to whatever sonic adventures they embark on next. Do yourself a favor and give this gem a listen!
