I was talking to my buddy & analog/visual artist Professor Scoot about new music last week. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not super well-versed in all things Jade Cicada, however I couldn’t help but want to shout-out this man for grabbing my attention in multiple avenues over the past few weeks.

Earlier this month, Jade released a mixtape titled Loot Drop Vol. 1. I was recommended the “Slim Shady Flip,” but once I saw the “Cha Cha Slide Flip” on there, I immediately ran the project from the top.

I love how Jade has embraced collaboration and experimentation, working with a variety of artists across adjacent genres. Schmoop is featured on three different tracks on Loot Drop surprisingly, my favorite of those (at this moment) being the “Jungle Boogie Flip.” Their synergy and the effortless flow of this project though make it fun for anyone with interest in some super hi-fi sound design.

The production quality is superior, with the expected rich textures and layered sounds. This includes a mix of glitchy synths and basses, which together create a deep and immersive listening experience–breathing new, exciting life into some classic tracks you might’ve either forgotten or thought you’ve heard too many times.

Aside from the new music, Jade Cicada just announced an impressive show with Tenorless on visual duties. Mark your calendars folks! Baltimore, Maryland is the city, December 28th is the date. There’s a star-studded roster of support, which includes: Resonant Language, Crawdad Sniper, Optik Sound, & Morphics

It’s been fun to watch Jade’s growth over the years and to see the various visual artists he collabs with like Cumulus Frisbee (also a sick producer), Focal Point for things like this show poster, and the list goes on. I forgot I took my mom to see STS9's 20 year anniversary show with Jade on direct support – she enjoyed herself a lot obviously, kinda hard not to! If you’ve never seen Jade Cicada live, check out his website here to keep up shows, tunes & more.
