In Camera by Clark | Album Review
Written by: chris.
What is there to say about Clark that hasn’t been said already? Enormously influential in just about every corner of the globe, his 20+ year career has seen enormous successes across an eclectic spectrum of sound, pushing the boundaries of electronica, techno, and beyond. From his early days sculpting glitchy, frostbitten vignettes on “Clarence Park”, to his ventures into the lush, cinematic realms of classical composition, Clark's discography is a masterclass in sonic reinvention. Each release offers a distinct narrative, driven by his insatiable curiosity and an absolute refusal to be confined by genre. And yet, even with such a legacy, Clark continues to surprise, as is evident with “In Camera”. This album feels like another bold evolution, another recalibration of his already expansive creative palette. With it, Clark invites us into an intimate soundscape, where organic instrumentation is meticulously deconstructed and recomposed alongside his signature electronic manipulations. His ability to blend the tactile with the ethereal feels more refined than ever, and “In Camera” is further evidence that everything Clark touches is golden.
As we delve deeper into the album, we find that the richness of “In Camera” lies not only in its complex arrangements, but also in its emotional weight.
Clark once again pushes the line past cinematic, blurring any definitions of genre, moving from delicate, intricate melodies to vast overwhelming soundscapes in a matter of seconds. Each track on this 20-song release feels like a self-contained microcosm of sound. The album’s title, “In Camera”, is aptly chosen, as each composition resembles a snapshot—a Polaroid capturing a specific moment in time and space. The music evokes a sense of nostalgia for experiences we’ve never had. “In Camera” is an undeniable 5/5, 10/10—whatever arbitrary scale we choose, this album stands at the top. It's a rare privilege to live in a time where technology and true mastery of a craft converge so perfectly. I know I’ll be returning to this album for years to come.
