Fervor and INSPECTAH Join Forces as BirdBrain & Unleash Mind-Shattering Debut EP
Written by: Dan Warren
The first quarter of 2025 has seen the birth and blossoming of new collab projects from some of the underground bass music scene’s finest producers. Earlier this month, we spotlighted GUNK—the alias from Smigonaut and David Westbom—and since then, we’ve seen new projects like Two Guys (Chez and crawdad sniper) announce their arrival. In the experimental bass world, another project has started to open eyes: BirdBrain, the new alias from Denver-based artists Fervor and INSPECTAH.
Fervor and INSPECTAH have been crushing it in their respective lanes. These up-and-coming artists continue to wow fans with their limitless production styles and meticulously-crafted soundscapes. Individually, their tracks have landed on well-respected labels such as Gravitas, Street Ritual, Aspire Higher, and more. They have also put out several collabs together, most recently “Hand Soup,” which was released on Hemi.Wav last Summer.
Not only are Fervor and INSPECTAH two very talented producers, but they’re also roommates! Having known each other for quite some time, while also learning the ins and outs of production together, it only makes sense to see them join forces and embark on the BirdBrain project. Inspired by artists such as EPROM, Resonant Language, and the late, great CharlestheFirst, BirdBrain is on a mission to foster a community for people “to rally behind unique and forward-thinking music,” as INSPECTAH told us.

During the early stages of writing music together under the BirdBrain alias, both Fervor and INSPECTAH realized that they filled in each other’s gaps when it came to production techniques and overall DAW knowledge, allowing for seamless collaboration and limitless potential. The confidence that they’ve instilled in one another is certainly on display in their debut, self-titled BirdBrain EP, which released earlier this month.
Diving into the BirdBrain EP, they immediately grab our attention with “Reginal Bobson.” The intro track begins as if a futuristic speed racer is revving its engine, ready to send us on a journey of epic proportions. “Reginal Bobson” was actually the big “Aha!” moment for Fervor and INSPECTAH, where they started to really envision a duo project together. The glitchy textures and twisted sounds seem to fold in on themselves, morphing and mutating into a shape-shifting beat that never settles.
The second track, “Anomaly,” builds off of the intro track’s energy with stuttering bass pulses and hypnotic grooves. It’s interesting to hear that, while BirdBrain incorporates several different sounds and styles, they find a way to make them all seamlessly fit together, allowing each one to take center stage and flex their authoritative muscles. Halfway home, the BirdBrain EP continues with “Goon,” an aggressive track with distorted basses that hit like an uppercut to the jaw. This one will definitely have crowds in a frenzy as it is total madness.
The fourth and final track on the BirdBrain EP, “Momentum,” is perfectly-titled, sending listeners into a new era of experimental bass music. Incorporating several different styles and flows, this is a brilliant showcase of what the BirdBrain project is all about: detailed sound design, mind-altering structure, and an undeniable forward-thinking vision.

BirdBrain announced themselves to the world in a big way with their debut EP. The BirdBrain EP is refreshing, unpredictable, immersive, and packed with layers that reveal themselves with each listen. If you’re a fan of brain-melting sound design and experimental flows, you need to give this EP a listen. We’re looking forward to following this project’s growth, in addition to the solo Fervor and INSPECTAH projects.
BirdBrain also recently announced its debut show, which will be taking place at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver this July! They will be supporting a stacked night of experimental beats alongside artists such as G-Space, Mantra Sounds, and Zone Drums. More information and tickets can be found here.
